Handmade by talented and retired Silversmith Ernesto who I had the pleasure of meeting in his home town San Cristobal, Chiapas, Mexico.
The Amber used is famous to Chiapas and around 24 million years old, it has then been set into Sterling Silver in Ernesto's unique style.
We randomly met in a colourful roadside coffee bar whilst I was sat watching the world go by drinking my Tescalate (hot choc local to Chiapas). After telling the waitress I was looking for local Silversmiths you could call it a coincidence that larger than life Ernesto was the next person to plonk himself down on the table opposite me. We started talking and he soon ran back to his home to grab his remaining creations from a previous chapter in his life as a Silversmith.
We talked through all the different stones in his collection, where in Mexico they were indigenous to, using black light and UV light he showed me the quality and intricacy of each gem. Spoilt for choice I finally managed to decide on a few choice pieces before we went Sombrero shopping, we are still in touch today.
