These beautiful circle rucksacks have been carefully handmade in Bali by talented artisans and finished with a traditional batik lining.

The straps and clasp been made with Indonesian leather.

A little thank you and story behind our Balinese Bags...
Handcrafted with Ata grass by Ibu Sri, Pak Loke and family. The grass is first harvested and dried, the stems are thinned with a knife to the perfect width and weaved around thicker pieces of Ata grass slowly forming into bags. The bags are then dried in the sun for around 2 weeks (longer if it rains) before finally being baked in a coconut husk oven giving them their darker colouring and beautiful smoked scent. Each bag is then lined with traditional Indonesian Batik fabric in a variety swirling patterns and colours.
I am very grateful to my friend Komang who introduced me to Ibu Sri and the 3 generations of their family who work amongst the business, who welcomed me into their home to witness hours of hard work and true craftsmanship, they had the Balinese coffee flowing and tried teaching me to weave part of a bag myself which has undoubtably given me even more appreciation for the work that goes into these little pieces of art!
Whilst I was visiting rain clouds loomed ahead so we gathered all the bags drying out in the courtyard and put them in hessian sacks, the clouds soon passed and no rain fell so we placed them back out in the sunshine, 'no sun, no work.' So here's another little thank you to the sun that shines and the abundance it brings to many.
